Not wearing a mask in Chennai? Beware...!
The Corporation has intensified preventive measures against the continuing increase in coronary and omicron infections in the city of Chennai. Three teams each in 15 zones have intensified surveillance work on public shopping malls, including theaters. Each group consists of officials from the corporation, police, and revenue. Penalty action is being taken especially against those who do not wear a mask.
The fines were imposed by 23 groups both yesterday, morning, and evening. The chennai corporation has said that 5.60 lakh fines have been levied on 2,603 persons from december 31 to yesterday. The chennai Corporation has said that a fine of Rs 2.18 lakh has been imposed on 1022 persons who did not wear helmets in areas including the Corporation yesterday alone.
Out of the 15 zones, the maximum fine is Rs 35,000 in the 8th zone and Rs 23,000 in the 7th zone. A minimum of Rs. 5,300 has been imposed in the 1st zone, the corporation said in a statement. Omicron cases have spread to many states in india and are uncontrollable. Many states have even gone for lockdown. With the pongal festival nearing, there is a chance that covid cases may spike again.
