Aditya L1 Spacecraft in 2nd Halo Orbit - isro Announces!

Aditya L-1 spacecraft, sent to study the sun, has successfully started its second halo orbit, isro said.

Aditya-L1 spacecraft, known as India's solar observatory, has completed its first halo orbit around the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 1 (L1), announced mission officials at the indian space research organisation (ISRO).

The Aditya-L1 was launched to low earth orbit (LEO) on september 2, last year by the indian rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle - XL (PSLV-XL) variant.

Sun-Earth L1 is the point where the gravitational pull of two large bodies -- sun and Earth -- will be equal and hence the spacecraft will not gravitate towards any one of them.

The indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched the Aditya L1 spacecraft on september 2 last year to study the upper atmosphere of the sun and study the nature and quantity of ionized particles emitted from the Sun.

It reached the L1 point, known as the Lagrangian point, 15 lakh kilometers from Earth on january 6. isro has now announced that the Aditya L1 spacecraft has completed its first orbit in the halo orbit.

The spacecraft took 178 days to complete this orbit and now the spacecraft is successfully changing its trajectory in the second halo orbit and is traveling smoothly, isro said on its X page.
