UP Board Exam 2026: Students Caught Cheating Won’t Face Criminal Charges

Lucknow / Uttar Pradesh, february 2026 — Ahead of the UP Board Class 10 and 12 examinations scheduled from 18 february to 12 march 2026, the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has issued important directives regarding how cheating cases will be handled this year.

In a new notification, the UP Board has clarified that students caught cheating or using unfair means during the 2026 board exams will not data-face criminal prosecution under the Uttar Pradesh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act. This is intended to protect students’ future prospects and ensure that a single mistake doesn’t lead to a permanent criminal record.

✔ Such students may be barred from being credited for those papers.

Broader Measures to Prevent Cheating

The Board has also taken additional steps to maintain exam integrity:

  • New security features on answer books to prevent misuse and forgery.
  • Use of QR‑coded invigilator ID cards to strengthen supervision.
  • Enhanced monitoring of “sensitive” exam centres with real‑time control rooms.
  • Clear instructions that unauthorised items like currency placed in answer sheets will be treated as unfair means and penalised.
Together, these measures aim to ensure a fair and malpractice‑free board exam season across Uttar Pradesh.

Authorities said the change is meant to balance strict deterrence against malpractice with fairness for students, especially minors who may unintentionally engage in wrongdoing under stress.
