Parents' reliance on Coaching Centers Criticized by NR Narayana Murthy
Infosys co-founder NR narayana murthy recently expressed his views on the reliance on coaching centers for academic success during the launch of the 13th edition of Paul Hewitt’s book Conceptual Physics in Bengaluru. Murthy stated that children should not necessarily need coaching classes if they are attentive and engaged in their school lessons. He criticized the notion that coaching is essential for gaining admission to prestigious institutions like IITs and NITs, suggesting instead that many students who attend coaching centers might be those who do not fully engage with their classroom teachings.
Murthy highlighted that often, parents who are unable to provide academic support at home view coaching centers as the only viable solution. He shared his personal experience, noting that he and his wife, sudha Murthy, dedicated three hours each day to teach their children, Akshata and Rohan, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. During this time, the family refrained from watching TV, and then continued studying together from 9 pm to 11 pm. He emphadata-sized that creating a disciplined study environment at home is crucial and that parents should not expect their children to succeed academically without their involvement.
Murthy also stressed the importance of providing students with world-class educational resources to strengthen STEM education in India.
