Why haven't we found a single alien yet?
Swiss scientists say it could take at least 60 years to succeed in an alien transmission. Research from the Biophysical Statistics Laboratory at the EPFL Institute in switzerland offers a new explanation for why we have yet to detect aliens. A related study has been published in the Astronomical Journal. The study said there is at least one electromagnetic signal in the Milky Way and an assumption that Earth has been in a quiet bubble for at least six decades. They have been looking for 60 years, says researcher Claudio Grimaldi. Earth could be in a bubble that would be devoid of radio waves emitted by extraterrestrials, he says.
The scientist explains that there is a need to scan for radio waves sent by aliens so that not enough alien transmissions may pass through the scanning area. However, the scientist says that we need to be more patient to find aliens. Scanning for traces of communication in the universe takes time, continuous effort, and money. There are also debates about whether or not SETI is useful to us.
Unfortunately, we haven't figured out how to use radio telescopes in an area where there are no electromagnetic signals from aliens, says Claudio Grimaldi. There's a lot more to look for. A better way forward is to look for other signals in the data collected by telescopes, rather than looking specifically for alien signals, suggests Grimaldi.
