How does warfare affect the common man?...
The effect of the Russia-Ukraine war is now clearly visible in the pockets of the common man. Fuel prices have increased all over the world including in India, due to which the prices of everything have increased. The UN said on friday that prices of food items such as cereals and vegetable oil rose to their highest levels in the past month due to Russia's attack on ukraine and widespread supply chain disruptions.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (AFO) said the food price index, linked to monthly changes in international prices of commodities, rose 12.6 percent last month compared to February.
It is noteworthy that the february index was at its highest level since 1990. The AFO said the ukraine war was largely responsible for the 17.1 percent increase in cereals, including wheat, barley, and corn. russia and ukraine export 30 percent and 20 percent of global wheat and corn, respectively.
Joseph Schmidhuber, deputy director of AFO's markets and trade division, said: "There is an urgent need to act on the very high prices of food items." We all know that ukraine is the world's top exporter of sunflower oil, and there has also been a large-scale supply disruption.
