Two teachers built 150 houses for homeless!
As a matter of fact, we know that teachers play a key role in making the society as they train the children to be better citizens. As we all have at least a teacher that had made a significant change in our life that we cannot ever forget. Now there is Sister lissy Chakkalakkal, Principal of 'Our Ladies Convent Girls School' in Thoppumpady, Kochi, who discovered one of her Class 8 pupils were homeless six years ago. The student's father, a mason, had died, and the family had no place to live. Then Chakkalakkal, together with Lilly Paul, a teacher at the same school, took the initiative to construct a home for her family. teachers, students, neighbours, and others helped her gather cash. The girl's family was eventually able to purchase a 600 square foot house.
Their good purpose, however, did not end there. It was the start of a project to provide shelter for people who most needed it. Following that, during the school's Platinum Jubilee celebration in 2014, both instructors agreed to launch the house Challenging Project. Over six years, they have constructed 150 homes for the homeless.
According to estimates, each house on a one-cent or two-cent plot costs between Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 10 lakh. After tiling and assuring a suitable design, the dwellings are given out. Approximately 80 kids from the school were able to return home as a result of this campaign. According to the teachers, homeless families with women, children, widows, and ill relatives were given precedence.
