Neeraj Chopra’s family didn't want him in the army?

In the tokyo 2020 Olympics, India's only gold medalist is Neeraj Chopra. Neeraj received world-class training and discipline as a developing athlete in the indian Army. His parents, on the other hand, were apprehensive about him joining the army. His parents had to be persuaded by a team of army officials to allow him to join the army under the sports quota in order for him to have a better career as an athlete. The officers were the ones who discovered Neeraj's talent in 2016, according to Lieutenant General (Retd) Abhay Krishna, the then commanding officer of the Rajputana Rifles.

The raj Rif's athletic sports coach first met Neeraj in patiala in january 2016. His javelin throw was approximately 80 metres at the time. In march 2016, the sports officer paid a visit to Neeraj's hamlet to see him and his parents. They persuaded Neeraj to join raj RIF after much pressure, claiming that his future would be safe in the indian Army. This was agreed upon by Neeraj and his family.

Lieutenant General (Retd) Abhay krishna said that the army has two methods for recognising outstanding athletes. The first is to seek raw potential among recruits/soldiers, and the second is to hunt for talent in civil areas to enrol under the sports quota. raj RIF has produced a number of outstanding athletes, including many Olympians.
