The cabinet Committee on Security authorised the purchase of 56 C-295MW transport aircraft for the indian Air Force from Airbus Defence and Space, a commercial corporation based in Spain. This is the first initiative of its sort in which a commercial business would construct a military aircraft in India.
Sixteen of the 56 aircraft will be delivered in flyaway condition from spain within 48 months of the contract's signature, while the remaining 40 will be built in india by the TATA consortium within 10 years.
