4 thousand 400 liters of substandard oil has been seized in a surprise raid by the Food Safety Department officials in Chennai. people were shocked when the food safety department officials discovered that oil was being sold underground. Apart from this, strict action will be taken if there is a complaint regarding the selling of non-vegetarian products in restaurants that cook and sell non-vegetarian products. A team led by the Designated Officer of the chennai District Food Safety Department, Satish Kumar, conducted a surprise raid at the Sri Malayamman oil Stores wholesale shop at Pilliyar temple Street, West Mambalam, Chennai. After receiving information that substandard cooking oil was being sold, the Food Safety Department conducted a raid there.
Then the Food Safety Department officials found the shocking thing while checking inside the shop. It was discovered during the investigation that there was a sump built underground and cooking oil was stored in it and sold. The officials were shocked to see this. Also, it was revealed that the sump inside the shop had substandard oil on inspection by the authorities. Following this, the officials of the Food Safety Department have taken the oil from the shop for testing. They also temporarily locked the shop and took action against the notice. After that, Satish Kumar, an appointed officer of the chennai District Food Safety Department, met the media. They got information that adulterated oil was being sold in that shop. So we went there for testing. Then it came to know that they were selling sunflower oil and palm oil in the same sump. This is completely wrong. From there, they have seized 1,000 liters of sunflower oil, 3,400 liters of palm oil, and a total of 4,400 liters of spoiled oil, he said.
The shop owner was running the shop without a proper license and appealed to the retailers not to make the same mistake. Speaking further, he said that the shop has been temporarily locked and the number taken from the oil sump has been tested and the test results will be available in 10 or 15 days. He further informed that further action will be taken and an investigation will reveal from whom the shop owner is buying oil. He said that all the products sold in the shop should have an ISI stamp and expiry date, he said that the inspection was conducted after the public complained that such oil was being sold in the shop and if found guilty, there is a possibility of a fine of Rs 10 lakh and imprisonment.
He also said that the public can send a whatsapp number to 9444042322 to file such a complaint and action will be taken on the complaint within two days.He also informed that it is a punishable offense to cook and sell non-vegetarian products in restaurants with colored dye and warned that strict action will be taken if there is a complaint about such preparation.
