US President Joe Biden has praised the United Nations General assembly (UNGA) passing a resolution condemning Russia. The resolution condemned the merger of four regions of ukraine with Russia. Biden said, 'Russia cannot erase a sovereign country from the world map.'

Amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, russia has merged four regions into its country through a recent referendum. The world's largest organization United Nations has condemned russia for this. 35 countries, including india, refrained from supporting the resolution, but 143 member countries supported it. Five countries voted against the proposal.

The resolution comes days after russia vetoed a similar resolution in the Security Council, which india had avoided. On Wednesday, the UN General assembly passed a resolution against russia, while similar resolutions previously brought to the Security Council could not be passed due to Russia's veto. Biden's statement came soon after the 193-member UN General assembly passed a resolution against Russia. In a statement issued by the White House, Biden said, "Today, nations from every region of the world, large and small, countries with different ideologies and governments, voted to defend the United Nations Charter and to take the territory of ukraine by force." Russia's illegal attempt to do so has been condemned.

143 nations stood for independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.' The US President said that russia is laying the foundation of international peace and security. The resolution brought to the UN General assembly said the organization condemns Russia's attempt to illegally annex four Ukrainian territories following the so-called referendum. None of the members exercised a veto against this proposal. The vote was passed on Monday, two days after ukraine and russia clashed at the UNGA.

India expressed deep concern over the escalation of conflict in ukraine after abstaining from a UN General assembly resolution condemning Russia. India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj told the UNGA that india is concerned about the escalation of conflict in ukraine, which involves targeting civilian infrastructure and civilian casualties. We have consistently advocated that there can never be a solution at the cost of human life.

Kamboj said that the global order of which india is a member is based on international law, the United Nations Charter, and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states. These principles should be upheld without exception. Ruchira Kamboj said that dialogue is the only way to resolve differences and disputes, however difficult it may be. The path to peace requires us to keep all avenues of diplomacy open... india stands ready to support all such efforts aimed at reducing tensions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced annexation to his country in the last week of september after referendums in four regions of ukraine – Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zhaporygiya. Putin formally announced this after signing the documents related to it. However, all western countries including America are calling this move of russia illegal. Tensions between russia and ukraine have escalated this week after the merger and the bombings on the Crimea Bridge.
