The world's conversation around identity is changing—and the latest global data suggests that change is becoming increasingly visible.

According to Statista Consumer Insights' 2024 survey, the philippines and the united states sit at the top of the list, with 11% of respondents identifying as LGBT+. Close behind is thailand at 10%, reinforcing its reputation as one of Asia's most socially visible LGBT+ communities.

What's striking isn't just who tops the rankings. It's how widely the numbers vary across regions, cultures, and generations. brazil and sweden each recorded 9%, while spain and the united kingdom followed with 8%. france and germany came in at 7%, showing that much of Western europe falls within a relatively similar range.

Further down the list, ireland and turkey each registered 6%, followed by poland at 5% and hungary at 4%. south korea and romania reported the lowest shares among the surveyed countries, with 3% of respondents identifying as LGBT+.

But these figures tell a bigger story than rankings alone. They reflect a world where conversations about identity, representation, and acceptance are becoming more public than ever before. In some countries, growing visibility may be encouraging more people to openly identify as LGBT+. In others, cultural attitudes, social norms, or concerns about stigma may still influence how comfortable people feel sharing that part of themselves.

The result is a fascinating snapshot of a rapidly evolving global landscape. While the percentages differ from country to country, one thing is clear: discussions around identity are no longer confined to the margins. They are increasingly shaping culture, politics, media, and everyday life across the world.

And as younger generations continue to redefine how identity is understood and expressed, these numbers may be only the beginning of a much larger shift.
