DUBAI AT 36°C PAYS 5% TAX ON AC – INDIA AT 45°C PAYS 18% GST AND WE CALL THIS GOVERNANCE?

SIBY JEYYA
It’s 45°C in india right now, and people are literally dying in the heat. Meanwhile, in dubai it’s a “cool” 36°C — and guess what? They tax air conditioners at just 5% VAT. Back home, we’re slapped with a brutal 18% GST. Same life-saving machine, triple the tax, double the temperature. Pure, unfiltered stupidity.

While indians are melting on the roads, gasping in overcrowded houses, and praying their old AC doesn’t give up, the government still wants its fat 18% cut on every new unit. dubai, a desert country that should be far hotter, understands basic human survival — they keep the tax at a reasonable 5%. The difference isn’t small. It’s criminal.

This isn’t about revenue. It’s about priorities. india treats survival tools like luxury items and then wonders why the poor can’t afford cooling during killer heatwaves. dubai treats cooling like a necessity and makes it accessible.

At 45°C, an AC isn’t a luxury — it’s a medical need. Yet our system makes it deliberately expensive while the temperature laughs at us. The same government that talks about “ease of living” is busy taxing the one thing that can actually save lives in this brutal summer.

This isn’t smart policy. This is tone-deaf, heartless governance that punishes its own citizens for trying to survive the heat india itself creates through poor planning and zero climate action.

45°C vs 36°C. 18% vs 5%. The numbers don’t lie — only the excuses do.
