Monthly Darshan or Governance? What If Vijay Wins Both Seats? The Question No One’s Asking

SIBY JEYYA

Let’s be honest—this isn’t just about Vijay. It’s about something much deeper, and frankly, a little uncomfortable to admit. The growing trend of young people passionately posting reels in his support isn’t just fandom anymore—it’s exposing a worrying gap in basic political awareness.

Because here’s the thing: supporting someone is fine. But understanding what you’re supporting? That’s where things start to fall apart.

Vijay recently stated that if he wins in constituencies like Perambur or Trichy East, he would meet the people once every month. Sounds nice, right? Almost devotional. But step back for a second—since when did governance become about “monthly appearances”? Is that really the benchmark we’re setting for elected representatives?

And it doesn’t stop there.

Let’s push this further. Imagine he contests and wins in both constituencies. What happens then? By law, he can’t hold two mla seats. He’ll have to vacate one. That triggers a by-election. Public money, administrative effort, political instability—all for what?

Now here’s the uncomfortable question:
Do the young supporters flooding social media even know this?

Or more importantly, does Vijay himself fully grasp the implications of what he’s promising?

This isn’t about attacking a personality. It’s about confronting a pattern. When politics starts getting driven by emotional hype instead of informed thinking, the consequences aren’t just political—they’re societal.

At some point, we need to stop clapping for soundbites and start asking sharper questions.

Because democracy doesn’t run on fandom. It runs on awareness.
