Tamil Nadu chief minister M. K. stalin has urged the Union government to immediately put on hold the proposed amendments to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act.

In his statement, the chief minister called on the central government to suspend the amendment process, stressing that the concerns of the transgender community must be addressed before proceeding further.

Concern Over Impact on Transgender Community

Stalin expressed apprehension that the proposed changes could adversely affect the rights and welfare of transgender persons, and emphadata-sized the need for inclusive and sensitive policymaking.

Demand for Wider Consultation

He insisted that any amendment to such an important law should be carried out only after thorough consultation with stakeholders, including members of the transgender community and rights organizations.

The chief minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to safeguarding the dignity, rights, and social justice of transgender individuals, urging the Centre to act responsibly and reconsider the proposal.
