Kashmir Security Tightened After Khamenei Death Protests

Thousands of Shia community members gathered at Lal Chowk for protests and condolence meetings, while similar demonstrations occurred in Kargil-Dras, Budgam, Bandipora, Anantnag, and Pulwama.
The administration sealed the Lal Chowk area and tightened security around the Clock Tower, deploying additional forces to maintain law and order and prevent large gatherings.
Peaceful mourning demonstrations were observed, with Shia youth holding pictures of Khamenei, chanting slogans, and expressing grief over his death, while religious organizations such as Anjuman-e-Shari Shian announced a 40-day mourning period.
In Jammu, Jumun Imamia organized a procession from Imambara Sufi Shah Peer Meetha to the Karbala Complex, attended by women and children from the Shia community.
Schools, colleges, and universities across kashmir have been closed for two days on the orders of the education minister to ensure student safety and avoid disruption.
Chief minister Omar Abdullah appealed for peace, urging communities to remain calm and avoid any actions that could escalate tensions.
