📱 Aadhaar Update Alert: Mobile Number Can Now Be Updated from Home in Minutes

G GOWTHAM
The Unique Identification Authority of India  has introduced a major convenience upgrade for Aadhaar users. You no longer need to stand in long queues or visit an Aadhaar centre just to change your mobile number — and in many cases, you can do it quickly and easily from your phone. Here’s how it works:

1. 🆕 What’s the New Change?

UIDAI has updated its services to allow Aadhaar holders to update their registered mobile number via the new Aadhaar app or online portal, without visiting an enrolment centre. This is a big shift from the old process, where in‑person visits were required for security verification.

2. 📲 Why This Matters

Your Aadhaar‑linked mobile number is used for:
✔ OTP verifications for banking and government services
✔ Subsidy and benefit authentication (DBT, pensions, scholarships)
✔ PAN linking, income tax filings, and wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital KYC
✔ Accessing wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital services safely

If your old number is inactive or you’ve changed it, updating it promptly is important so you don’t lose access to these credentials.

3. 🚀 How the New Update Works

Thanks to the updated Aadhaar app and online system:

️ From the Aadhaar App

Download the new Aadhaar app (Android or iOS).

Log in with your Aadhaar number and biometric/data-face verification.

Go to Services → Update mobile Number.

Enter your new mobile number and verify via OTP.

Complete the update — done in minutes from your phone.

️ Online via the Aadhaar Portal
You may also use the myAadhaar portal to request mobile updates. Once submitted, the update is processed without centre visits. However, biometrics may still be verified digitally.

4. ⏱️ How Fast Is It Really?

  • Once updated through the app or portal, the new number typically reflects in Aadhaar within about 15 days.
  • In many cases, the request can be submitted in just a few minutes, especially if biometric/data-face authentication works smoothly.
  • This is a major improvement from older timelines (which sometimes took 2–4 weeks after visiting a centre).
5. 💸 Is There a Fee?

Yes — Aadhaar updates via the app or portal may require a processing fee (around ₹75) as per UIDAI’s updated fee structure for demographic changes like mobile number or address updates.

6. 📍 What You Still Can’t Update Online

Some sensitive updates, such as biometric data (fingerprints, iris, photo), still require an in‑person visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorised centre — online verification is not sufficient for those.

7. 📌 Tips for a Smooth Update

✔ Ensure your new mobile number is active and with you for OTP verification.
✔ Use the official Aadhaar app or uidai portal — avoid third‑party sites or SMS links.
✔ If your old number is inactive and you can’t get an OTP, a centre visit might still be needed just once to register a reachable number.
✔ Keep your Aadhaar and identity proofs handy in case authentication is required.

8. 🧠 Bottom Line

This new feature means any Aadhaar cardholder in india can change their linked mobile number from anywhere, at any time, as long as they use the official Aadhaar app or online services. This not only saves time and travel, but also makes Aadhaar services more accessible and secure for everyone.

💡 Pro Tip: After updating your Aadhaar mobile number, remember to update it everywhere else — like your bank, PAN card, and other govt e‑services — so you continue receiving OTPs and alerts smoothly.
