How to Add Mobile Number or Email to Aadhaar Card: Step-by-Step

1. Decide Your Method

You can update your Aadhaar via:

  • Online (for mobile number only, via the uidai website)
  • Offline (visit an Aadhaar Enrollment/Update Center for mobile or email)
2. Online Update (Mobile Only)

Step 1: Go to the official uidai portal:
https://uidai.gov.in

Step 2: Click on “Update Aadhaar Details (Online)” → “Update mobile Number via OTP”

Step 3: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the captcha code → click Send OTP

Step 4: Enter the OTP received on your current registered mobile (if available)

Step 5: Enter the new mobile number → submit

Step 6: You will get a UR (Update Request) Number — track your request at UIDAI.

💡 Note: Online email update is not available, only mobile can be updated online.

3. Offline Update (Mobile & Email)

Step 1: Visit a nearest Aadhaar Enrollment/Update Center with:

  • Original Aadhaar Card
  • Proof of identity (optional if not updating name/address)
  • Your mobile phone
Step 2: Fill the Aadhaar Update/Correction Form

Step 3: Tick the field you want to update: Mobile Number / Email ID

Step 4: Submit the form to the operator

Step 5: Operator will verify your biometric (fingerprint/iris)

Step 6: You will get an Acknowledgment Slip with your UR number

4. Track Your Update Request

  • Visit https://uidai.gov.in → Check Update Status
  • Enter Aadhaar number and UR number to track progress
5. Timeline

  • Mobile number updates: usually within 1–2 days
  • Email updates: usually within 1 week
6. Verify Update

Once updated, you can:

  • Download e-Aadhaar from uidai portal
  • Check if your mobile number/email appears correctly

  • Avoid third-party apps or services claiming to update Aadhaar
