Chennai: tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. stalin has welcomed the university Grants Commission’s (UGC) newly announced regulations, stating that they will play a crucial role in eliminating caste-based discrimination in higher educational institutions across the country.In a statement, the chief minister said that the new rules reflect a progressive and inclusive approach, aimed at ensuring equality, dignity, and justice for students from all social backgrounds. He emphadata-sized that educational institutions must function as spaces free from discrimination, where merit and opportunity are accessible to everyone without bias.Mr. stalin noted that caste-based discrimination has long been a serious concern in higher education and has adversely affected the academic and mental well-being of students, particularly those from marginalized communities. He expressed hope that the UGC’s revised framework would strengthen accountability mechanisms within institutions and create a safer, more equitable learning environment.The chief minister further stated that the Dravidian Model of governance has consistently championed social justice and equal access to education. He highlighted tamil Nadu’s long-standing commitment to affirmative action, inclusive policies, and student welfare measures as examples of how systemic discrimination can be effectively addressed through policy intervention.Welcoming the UGC’s initiative, Mr. stalin urged universities and colleges to implement the new regulations in both letter and spirit.
