Thanjavur: Marking the celebration of Mattu pongal, a special Go-Pooja was conducted with great devotion and traditional fervor at the historic Brihadeeswarar temple, popularly known as the thanjavur Big Temple. As part of the auspicious ritual, prayers were offered to 108 cows, symbolizing gratitude toward cattle for their vital role in agriculture and human livelihood.

The temple premises were filled with spiritual energy as priests performed the rituals following ancient Vedic traditions. The cows were beautifully decorated with garlands, turmeric, kumkum, and colorful ornaments. Devotees gathered in large numbers to witness the sacred ceremony and seek blessings, highlighting the deep cultural connection between tamil traditions and cattle worship.

Mattu pongal is dedicated to honoring cattle, which have long been considered an integral part of rural life and farming practices. The Go-Pooja conducted at the thanjavur Big temple reflected this age-old belief, emphasizing respect, compassion, and harmony between humans and animals.
