Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin has written a strong letter to the Union Minister, urging the central government to take immediate and effective diplomatic measures to prevent the continued arrest and detention of tamil Nadu fishermen by neighboring countries.

In his letter, the chief minister expressed deep concern over the recurring incidents in which tamil Nadu fishermen are being arrested, harassed, and imprisoned while carrying out their traditional fishing activities. He pointed out that despite repeated appeals and assurances, such incidents continue to occur, causing severe distress to fishermen and their families.

The chief minister highlighted that fishermen from coastal districts such as Rameswaram, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, and Ramanathapuram depend entirely on fishing for their livelihood. He stressed that many fishermen unknowingly cross maritime boundaries due to inadequate navigational facilities, poor weather conditions, or traditional fishing routes that have been followed for generations. Arresting them and subjecting them to harsh treatment is inhumane, he said.

Demand for Diplomatic Intervention

Chief minister stalin urged the Union government to engage in strong diplomatic dialogue with the concerned neighboring country to ensure:
