Chief Justice Directs MP to Move Bombay High Court!?
Supreme court Updates: Key Developments from october 14
Sonam Wangchuk Detention Case Postponed
The supreme court has postponed the hearing in the case of Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently detained under the National Security Act (NSA) in connection with last month’s violence in Ladakh.
The matter, which was scheduled for hearing on october 14, will now be taken up on october 15 due to time constraints.
The petition was filed by Wangchuk’s wife, geetanjali Angmo, who alleged that his detention is illegal and sought his immediate release.
The case has drawn national attention, with several rights groups questioning the use of the NSA against the noted environmentalist and education reformer.
Supreme court Directs Daman mp to Approach bombay High Court
In another case, the supreme court refused to entertain a petition filed by daman and diu mp Umeshbhai Babubhai patel, who sought a court-monitored SIT investigation into alleged financial irregularities worth ₹33 crore related to the renovation and restoration of the Union Territory secretariat building in Daman.
A bench of Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran directed patel to approach the bombay high court for relief.
Patel’s lawyer argued that 52 FIRs have been filed against him and that he is also contesting an order passed by the Lokpal.
The lawyer claimed these cases were retaliation for Patel’s efforts to expose corruption and financial mismanagement in the Union Territory administration.
In response, Chief Justice Gavai remarked, “Can the laws be different for an mp and a common citizen?”
When the lawyer emphadata-sized Patel’s elected status, the Chief Justice stated, “That’s fine. You can approach the high court with jurisdiction.”
