Ten years ago today, following the historic
victory of the
bharatiya janata party in the 2014
lok sabha elections,
narendra Damodardas Modi took the oath of
office as India's fifteenth prime minister.
prime minister Modi was sworn in as India's fifteenth
prime minister on May 26, 2014. In a lavish ceremony conducted in Rashtrapati Bhavan's forecourt, he took the oath of office.
The swearing-in of Modi signaled a significant change in
indian national
politics and put an end to the
indian National Congress's ten-year rule. The 63-year-old
narendra modi took the oath in
hindi while wearing his signature kurta and waistcoat and carrying a pen that was neatly clipped into his pocket. PM Modi became the first
indian prime minister to be born after independence as a result.
The
bharatiya janata party won a broad mandate in the 2014 elections, which led to Modi's swearing-in. On its own, the
bjp secured 282 seats, a massive mandate not seen since 1984. With only 44 seats, the
congress was in a tight spot while the NDA's number increased to 336. The attendance of South Asian nations, such as
afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, Sri Lankan Mahinda Rajapaksha, and Pakistan's then-Prime
minister Nawaz Sharif, was the main
event of PM Modi's swearing-in in 2014.
After taking
office, PM Modi implemented the'minimum government, maximum governance' agenda, appointing a 'leaner'
cabinet than the departing UPA government, which had more than 75 ministers. PM Modi chose a group of 45 ministers, including 12 ministers of state, 10 ministers of state with independent charge, and 23
cabinet ministers.
