26 people, mostly tourists, were killed in a terrorist attack on tuesday afternoon at a tourist spot known as 'Mini Switzerland' near pahalgam town of Jammu and Kashmir. This is the deadliest attack in the valley after the Pulwama attack in 2019. A high-ranking official said that among the 26 dead, two are foreigners and two are residents.
Jammu and kashmir chief minister omar abdullah described this terrorist attack as 'much bigger than any attack on civilians in recent years'. Officials said that this attack happened at a time when US Vice President JD Vance was on a visit to India. At the same time, the tourism and trekking season is gaining momentum in Jammu and Kashmir.
Regarding the pahalgam attack, officials and eyewitnesses said that armed terrorists entered 'Mini Switzerland' and started firing at tourists roaming around the restaurants, riding mules, andpicnicking. The Resistance Front (TRF), a front organization of Pakistan-based banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack.
