In a recent interview, Smriti Irani, a well-known representative of the ruling bharatiya janata party (BJP) and a former Union Minister, disclosed that she used to work at a McDonald's restaurant, where she cleaned dishes and wiped floors. Irani said during her remarks at the Times Now Summit 2025 that she received Rs 1,800 per month for her work.

After making it to the finals of the Miss india contest, she remarked, "I used to sweep floors and wash the dishes at the first McDonald's that had opened and I used to pay Rs 1,800 a month for that job." Irani, 49, discussed the different odd occupations she worked on at a young age in the same conversation.  "I made Rs 200 a day selling cosmetics on the street in Janpath when I was seventeen years old.  I started working for a courier firm when I was eighteen.

Irani also revealed that when she entered the Miss india competition at the age of 22, she had to take out a loan.  "But, after being a Miss india finalist, I had no job," she stated. Irani added that she had no desire to work as a fashion model because she did not want to be recognized for her appearance. Irani, who served as a member of parliament from 2011 to 2024, has held leadership positions in a number of prime minister Narendra Modi's cabinet ministries, including the Ministry of Minority Affairs and the Ministry of women and Child Development.
