NDLS Stampede: Railway minister ashwini Vaishnav said that 49000 general tickets were sold on the stampede day on february 15 at the New delhi Railway Station.

The Railway Ministry told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that on february 15, 13,000 more general tickets were sold at New delhi Railway Station than the daily average. Let us tell you that on this day 18 people died at the station due to the stampede.Railway minister ashwini Vaishnav, in a written reply to a question in this regard by TMC mp Mala Roy, said, 'On february 15, about 49,000 general tickets were issued from New delhi Railway Station, which was 13,000 more than the daily average of tickets sold during the last six months.' However, the minister also said that to meet this additional demand, five Kumbh special trains were run from NSLS, each with a seating capacity of 3,000 passengers.
He also said that unreserved tickets issued from a station on a particular day may or may not be for that station and date. There is a trend of passengers buying tickets much before the date of travel.
