The Modi administration has been asked by the Taliban's foreign ministry in afghanistan to give the Taliban command of the Afghan embassy in Delhi.
 
Following a meeting between indian Foreign Secretary vikram Misri and Taliban Foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Dubai, india recently established high-level engagement with the Taliban for the first time. To strengthen bilateral ties and investigate the usage of Iran's Chabahar port, india has also had talks with the Taliban-run Afghan government.
Suhail Shaheen's Son Baneha to Become Ambassador to India!
According to a report by Amu TV, the Taliban leadership has reopened talks with the indian government about seizing control of the Afghan embassy in New Delhi. According to reports, the Taliban have also presented indian authorities with a fresh list of potential diplomats, among them Najib Shaheen, the son of Suhail Shaheen, the Taliban envoy in Doha.
 
Notably, since the end of November, the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in delhi has been shuttered. Afghan diplomats at the time said that even after a protracted wait, they were unable to influence the indian government's position or get visa extensions for diplomats.
 
India Considering Taliban's Request
The Taliban have once again sent a list of their diplomatic candidates to New delhi following a meeting with the indian Foreign Secretary. Afghanistan's former ambassador to Canada, Shinkai Karokhail, said india will look at the issue closely. Karokhail added, "India cannot outright reject the Taliban's request, but it will be highly selective in approving individuals for diplomatic roles." She went on to say, "Given the Taliban's close ties with Pakistan's intelligence and military, New delhi may avoid appointing individuals directly linked to Islamabad's security establishment."
 
India may reopen its embassy in Kabul
India could also think about reopening its embassy in Kabul, according to the reports. Since the Taliban seized control of Kabul in august 2021, the embassy has been shuttered. afghanistan maintains two consulates in india, one in hyderabad and one in mumbai, in addition to its embassy in New Delhi. Ikramuddin Kamil, who was appointed by the Taliban and is a graduate of the South Asian university in india, is presently in charge of the mumbai consulate.
