As he looks into the murder of Joel (Kamal Kamaraj), a well-known businessman who was discovered dead in his ECR farmhouse, the movie follows suspended police officer Divakar (Sundar C). Unexpectedly, the case relates to his own missing fiancée, Aadhya (Tanya Hope), who vanished after seeing something strange at Joel's business.
Along the way, we see an interrogation of a model (Hebah Patel), a housekeeper with sinister secrets, a power struggle between Joel and his wife Anitha at his firm, and an evangelical empire headed by Arokyaraj that prioritizes profit over ministry. All of these unrelated strands are somehow tied together by the unintentional death of a kid, but by that point, we have lost the desire to make the connection.
In an unexpected lead role, sundar c gives Divakar a solid but quiet presence while navigating sequences with the immediacy of a phone book reader. Hebah patel has a respectable on-screen persona. Like their protagonists, the supporting ensemble becomes enmeshed in the never-ending stream of betrayals and disclosures. The last twist is delivered with all the force of a status update.
Overall, Vallan ends up with a thriller that is more draining than exciting because he confuses narrative density for depth. It's the sort of movie that makes us wish the storyline had been killed.
