Since the majority of the films that have been released in the last few years have been huge hits, the malayalam film industry is at its height right now. However, malayalam film is currently facing a severe crisis. A few weeks ago, the film Sookshmadarshini was released. The HD version of the film was released on pirate websites ten days after its theatrical debut.
Similar to Mohanlal's Barroz, the highly acclaimed violent malayalam film Marco likewise had its HD version leaked within 5-8 days of its premiere, after Sookshmadarshini. A newly released film's high definition version has now also been leaked. The ultra-HD version of Suraj Venjaramoodu's dark comedy Extra Decent, which came out on december 20, has also been pirated.

The issue of malayalam and even kollywood film piracy is becoming more and more prevalent. Only movie theater copies were released on pirate websites a few years ago. But these days, HD movie versions are made available online 5–10 days after they are launched in theaters. This problem has to be dealt with and managed right now. malayalam film directors are working hard to get people to the theaters, but these HD leaks are becoming a big problem.

The mollywood industry had back-to-back high-budget releases in January, including Identity, Rekhachithram, Pravinkoodu Shappu, Dominic and the Ladies' Purse, and Thudarum. To address this issue, the malayalam film industry's groups have to act right now.
