Since joining the Liberal party in 2019, the 57-year-old lawyer has maintained her position as one of the party's most ambitious members due to her remarkable career in public service and administration.

Once the new leader is chosen, a spring election is expected since the opposition parties are getting ready to fight the Liberal Party.
Who is Transport minister Anita Anand?
Anita anand, a politician of indian descent, is ranked by the BBC as one of the top five candidates to succeed Trudeau following his departure. Currently serving as the minister of Transport and Internal Trade, anand is a politician and lawyer from Canada. Since entering parliament in 2019 and representing the Toronto suburb of Oakville, the 57-year-old former defense minister has remained a prominent presence within the party.
 
Educational background: Oxford university awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Jurisprudence, Dalhousie university awarded a Bachelor of Laws, Queen's university awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies, and the university of Toronto awarded a master of Laws.

Political career: Anand had important political positions during her career, including as minister of Public services and Procurement, where she received recognition for her vital work acquiring vaccinations during the COVID-19 epidemic.
