The Greater chennai traffic police (GCTP) has announced a number of traffic regulations that will take effect at 7 p.m. on tuesday, december 31, 2024, and last until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, january 1, 2025, in anticipation of the city's churches and beaches being visited by large crowds on New Year's Eve. Traffic will not be allowed on any of the city's flyovers from 10 p.m. on tuesday until 6 a.m. on Wednesday. 

The traffic police have restricted parking and closed some routes, notably the Foreshore service road from war Memorial to Lighthouse, in order to control the masses that are anticipated to visit marina Beach. In order to get to Mandaveli, R.A. Puram 2nd Main Road, R.K. Mutt Road, and Luz Mylapore, vehicles traveling from Adyar and planning to continue towards Kamarajar Salai would be detoured at the intersection of Greenways Road and South Canal Road. 

In a similar manner, cars heading towards Kamarajar Salai from the Dr. R.K. Salai side will be rerouted at V.M. Street Junction to R.K. Mutt Road, Luz Junction, Mandaveli, and South Canal bank Road in order to arrive at Santhome High Road and Greenways Road. In order to go to their destinations, vehicles traveling from Parry's towards Kamarajar Salai will be rerouted at RBI subway (North) via North fort Wall Road, Muthusamy Road, Wallajah Point, and Anna Salai. vehicles will not be permitted to go on Flag Staff Road after 8 p.m. from Wallajah Point to the war Memorial. 

Public transportationPublic transportation users will be redirected at R.K. Mutt via Thiruvengadam Street, Devanathan Street, Venkateswara Agraharam Street, and Nageshwara Park to get to their destinations from the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses heading north from Greenways Junction. On the way back, the MTC buses will be rerouted at RBI underground to Wallajah Point via Anna Salai, Cathedral Road, V.M. Street Junction, Luz Junction, Mandaveli Junction, Muthusamy Point, and South Canal Road before continuing on to their final destinations.
