Couple posing as Daughter & Son-in-law of PM Modi's Secretary Arrested for Fraud
The 38-year-old Hansita Abhilipsa and her putative spouse, Anil Mohanty, deceived people by claiming deep connections to well-known odisha politicians and officials. The police claim that they ran their business out of a luxurious office on Infocity-Nandankanan Road in Bhubaneswar, where they enticed victims with false promises of securing contracts and agreements through their powerful connections.
A mine owner who claimed to have been scammed by the pair filed a complaint, which led to the arrests.
According to police investigations, Abhilipsa's strategy was to digitally alter photos to make it seem as though she was connected to high-ranking officials, such as Manoj Ahuja, the chief secretary of odisha, and the former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
She then utilized these altered photos and made up relationships to win her victims' confidence.
According to reports, Abhilipsa targeted affluent people in industries including mining, construction, and multinational corporations, saying she could have a significant impact on important choices.
To increase her credibility, the police also claimed that she had pretended to be the spouse of prominent politicians, businesspeople, or bureaucrats, depending on the situation.
The pair was taken into custody in the Patia neighborhood of the state capital, and additional inquiries are being conducted to find more potential fraud victims and collaborators.
According to the sensitive information we have obtained, Hansita Abhilipsa and Anil Mohanty reportedly deceived individuals by claiming to be related to the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary, PK Mishra. They were presenting themselves as PK Mishra's daughter and son-in-law. On december 26, a case was filed, according to Additional DCP Swaraj Debata.
Additionally, the top police officer urged anyone who had been harassed or solicited by the pair to come forward.
