UP cleric calls New year 2025 celebrations 'un-Islamic', Congress reacts
All india Muslim Jamaat Maulana country wide president Shahabuddin Razvi has issued a fatwa for Muslims in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, ordering them to live faraway from New yr celebrations, suggested news business enterprise PTI.
The cleric stated that greeting every other on the new 12 months and having events was un-Islamic for the reason that starting the 12 months from january and having New year celebrations are a Christian exercise.
The fatwa states that such practices and programmes are strictly prohibited underneath Islam.
A fatwa is a report issued by way of a mufti (one that translates Islamic law) in response to questions of spiritual significance. it is considered an additional-legal stricture issued to participants of the Muslim community.
"in the course of New year celebrations, dances, obscenity, hooliganism, alcoholism, making a bet-like sports are organised in resorts. all these sports are banned in the Islamic Shariat. Any boy or woman located involved in those activities might be a perpetrator as in keeping with Sharia," said Razvi, who belongs to the Barelvi sect of the faith.
The cleric also advised ANI, "The young ladies and men who have fun New 12 months had been informed in this fatwa that celebrating New year isn't always a matter of satisfaction and neither need to this birthday party be celebrated nor have to it's congratulated."
Congress' reaction
according to the cleric, celebrating any non-non secular practices is forbidden for Muslims.
congress leader Surendra Rajput told PTI that the fatwa was against the concept of 'cohesion in diversity' in India.
He said, "people from one-of-a-kind religions make such garbage talks. these human beings defame their religions. india is a rustic of team spirit in diversity. every religion is reputable right here, festivals are celebrated together. there's no want to react lots to such topics. They simply want to advantage the ruling birthday party via communal methods."
