Three police impersonators were nabbed after the Delhi Police Crime Branch busted a honeytrap group
New Delhi: On Wednesday, the delhi police Crime Branch uncovered a gang involved in honey trapping that impersonated police officers to extort money from unsuspecting victims. Three individuals, named Neeraj Tyagi, Deepak, and Ashish, were taken into custody in relation to the case. Notably, two of the suspects were already wanted for a honey trap incident reported at the Bindapur police station.
The significant breakthrough occurred on december 24 when the Crime Branch received information regarding the gang's activity. Promptly, a team was assembled, and an operation was set up near Budh vihar Nala along Main Kanjhawala Road in Delhi. During the action, a vehicle arrived at the scene containing a man wearing a delhi police head constable uniform. The suspects also presented counterfeit police identification cards. Growing wary of their behavior, the Crime Branch personnel asked the trio to come with them for further inquiry. The suspects tried to escape but were caught after a short pursuit.
A medical professional was among the victims. Throughout the questioning, the suspects initially attempted to deceive the investigators but eventually admitted their involvement in criminal endeavors. Further inquiries revealed that Neeraj Tyagi and deepak were wanted in a honey trap case reported at the Bindapur police station in the Dwarka district. This case dates back to august 2024, when a 60-year-old doctor became a victim of the gang's fraudulent schemes. The victim was approached by an unfamiliar woman over the phone. After several discussions, the woman enticed him to her home by claiming that her mother required medical assistance.
Upon the doctor’s arrival, the woman offered him snacks and struck up a conversation. However, she soon accused him of inappropriate conduct and threatened to lodge a false complaint. At that moment, two men dressed as police officers and two others in plain clothes entered the room, claiming to arrest the doctor. The group demanded a payment of Rs 9 lakh to resolve the situation and drop the charges. Following this troubling experience, the doctor reported the event to the Bindapur police station, leading to the registration of a case. Although four suspects, including two women, were apprehended during the local investigation, Neeraj Tyagi and deepak had managed to avoid capture until now.
During the recent operation, the Crime Branch confiscated a number of incriminating items, such as three counterfeit delhi police identity cards, a police head constable uniform, a vehicle, and three mobile devices. The investigation continues, and authorities are striving to uncover more about the gang's operations and any additional individuals who may be involved.
