Reportedly in a bid to address the growing menace of political posters and hoardings defacing Maharashtra’s urban landscape, shiv sena (UBT) leader Aaditya thackeray wrote an open letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. thackeray urged fadnavis to enforce a blanket ban on all political posters, banners, and hoardings, irrespective of party affiliation. His letter called for a united effort to curb this practice, which not only mars the aesthetic appeal of cities but also burdens citizens and political workers alike.Meanwhile his appeal comes as a step towards fostering collaboration among political rivals for the collective betterment of the state’s towns and cities. He highlighted the alarming rise in the number of political posters, banners, and hoardings plastered across major cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. The former state cabinet minister said many of these were illegal, often without permission, and have become an eyesore. He wrote “Over the past two years, the unchecked proliferation of political posters has turned every corner of our cities into a battleground of political branding. It is disheartening to see our cities lose their charm and cleanliness to this senseless competition".Moreover he further claimed that municipal bodies, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), have been selectively removing these posters. He alleged that while banners put up by opposition parties are promptly taken down, those of the ruling party are allowed to remain. thackeray stressed on the financial implications of this “poster culture". He said political workers often bear the brunt of the expenses, diverting funds that could otherwise be used for constructive activities or public welfare.
