Chess player Tania Sachdev criticizes government for lack of support, Atishi responds
When female Grandmaster Tania Sachdev brought attention to the lack of respect for chess players in the nation's capital, delhi chief minister Atishi reacted.

Tania Sachdev, who has played for delhi since 2008, began the discussion on X by expressing her annoyance at not being acknowledged by the state administration. She claims that despite receiving numerous chess awards on the world scene, she received no recognition from the state government. Days have passed since D Gukesh of india won the global chess championship."I've been playing for india since 2008, and it's disappointing to see that the delhi administration doesn't acknowledge my chess accomplishments. Talent and excellence are directly inspired by states that honour and promote its winners. Unfortunately, delhi still hasn't done this," Sachdev remarked on X.
"I returned from the 2022 Chess Olympiad with an individual medal and a historic team bronze. The state government has yet to acknowledge the historic Olympic gold in chess, which was won two years later in 2024," she continued.Sachdev expressed his hope that Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, and chief minister Atishi will "see the value in supporting their chess athletes."
