Will Internet Be Affected In India? Bangladesh Cancels 'Bandwidth Transit' Agreement

SIBY JEYYA
The 'Bandwidth Transit' deal between bangladesh and india has been terminated by the government of Bangladesh. The Sheikh Hasina government's prior consent has been revoked by prime minister Muhammad Yunus. bangladesh had intended to use its territory to help India's northeastern provinces expand their internet access as part of this arrangement.

This transit deal was previously granted by the Sheikh Hasina administration, however, it has now been annulled due to the Yunus government's recent decision. The Hasina administration had granted authorization for the indian government to utilize Bangladeshi territory for this purpose. Nonetheless, this recent move by Yunus's administration signifies a substantial change in the two nations' bilateral ties. bangladesh has already altered its visa regulations for indian nationals in several ways. According to experts, this cancelation might give India-Bangladesh ties a new angle.

Will this choice lead to fresh hostilities between bangladesh and India? The impact of this step is yet unknown, especially given the growing complexity of adjacent country ties. Following the submission of a proposal by Bangladeshi businesses Summit Communications and Fiber@Home to provide high-speed bandwidth from singapore to the northeastern part of india, the bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) requested clearance from the telecom ministry last year. In order to improve connection in the area, the proposal called for working with indian telecom behemoth Bharti airtel to route the bandwidth over the Akhaura data-border.
