6 to 8 Weeks OTT Demand - Is it possible?

G GOWTHAM
In a letter to the state government, the tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association highlighted a number of recommendations to enhance theaters' operational circumstances. Among them are:
1. Dynamic Ticket Pricing: For various theater types—multiplexes, A/C theaters, and non-A/C theaters—the organization is requesting authorization to impose dynamic ticket rates of up to ₹250 plus taxes.

2. Normal and Early Morning Shows: In addition to five normal screenings, they are asking approval for five early morning shows. The group is in favor of tamil Nadu adopting the same first-day-first-show (FDFS) start schedules as other indian states.

3. OTT distribution Window: Additionally included is a request for a 6–8 week window of distribution for films prior to their OTT platform launch.

Although these recommendations are a sincere attempt to revive the theater sector, past records indicate that similar requests have been made in India's other language industries as well. Nevertheless, because producers frequently choose the rapid cash rewards provided by OTT platforms, these initiatives frequently fail. It might be tempting to release movies for a profitable price on these channels in as little as three to four weeks. Whether the current need for a 6–8 week OTT release timeframe will persist is the urgent topic at hand.
