You Can't Drive 15 Years or Older Vehicles in Hyderabad or other Telangana Districts

SIBY JEYYA
The telangana administration plans to outlaw driving automobiles older than 21 on Hyderabad's roadways as well as those in other state districts. It is anticipated that the ruling will take effect on january 1, 2025.

15 years or older vehicles

If a car is fifteen years old or older, it is overage.

A report in the TOI states that these cars have to be discarded. If one of these vehicles is discovered on the road, the owner will be penalized.

Nevertheless, after paying a green fee, older cars that pass the fitness test can stay on the road for an additional three to five years.

Ten thousand government cars are not covered by this exemption.

17 lakh overage vehicles in Hyderabad

The research states that there are 20,000 auto rickshaws, 1 lakh cargo vehicles, 3.5 lakh automobiles, and 17 lakh motorbikes that are overage. The Regional Transport Authority has submitted a draft of the car scrappage policy to the government for approval, therefore it may be necessary to scrap these vehicles.

Owners of the vehicles would then have two choices: either scrap the car or deal with the repercussions if they are found driving on the roads. On the other hand, cars that pass the fitness test will be able to keep running for an extra three to five years as long as they pay green tax. Approximately 10,000 government cars, regardless of condition, are required to be demolished at the age of 15, thus this exception would not apply to them.
