Bengal Chief Secretary's Fifth and Final Invite to junior Doctors Amidst Ongoing Protests
West bengal Chief Secretary Manoj pant has issued a final invitation to junior doctors protesting the rape and murder of a trainee medic at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical college and Hospital. The invitation is for a meeting with chief minister Mamata Banerjee scheduled for today at 5 pm at her residence in Kalighat.
Pant's letter emphadata-sizes that this is the "fifth and final" attempt to arrange a discussion between the chief minister and the protesting doctors. It reiterates that the meeting will be held with an open mind and underlines that no live-streaming or videography will be allowed. The letter also specifies that the same delegation that attended previous discussions should represent the doctors.
BJP’s Reaction
Following the letter, amit Malviya, the bjp IT cell chief, criticized the Chief Secretary's invitation. In a post on X, Malviya labeled the use of "sub judice" as a reason for prohibiting live-streaming as "absolute trash" and suggested it was a tactic to present a benign image before the supreme Court. He accused the chief minister of using the meeting for political gain and warned doctors to be cautious.
Doctors’ Protest
The junior doctors in West bengal have maintained their strike, demanding several reforms to improve safety in hospitals. They have insisted on live-streaming the meeting with the chief minister, a request that has been declined. Despite the supreme court forming a hospital safety task force and other states calling off their protests, the strike in West bengal continues.
Ongoing Rallies
Public demonstrations in kolkata have persisted, with various groups rallying for justice for the victim. Retired army officers, former students of local schools, and nurses have marched through the city, calling for enhanced safety measures and the arrest of those involved in the crime. These rallies reflect the widespread demand for immediate action and accountability.
