Kolkata Top Cop vineet kumar Goyal Sought Resignation, mamata banerjee Refused
On Monday, West bengal chief minister mamata banerjee revealed that kolkata police Commissioner vineet kumar Goyal had approached her expressing his desire to resign. However, Banerjee stated that she did not permit him to step down.
Mamata Banerjee responded to media inquiries by saying, “He has been telling me he wants to resign, but I did not allow it.” She further refuted claims that she had offered money to the victim’s family, clarifying, “There are accusations that I offered money, but I have not said anything about money, nor did I offer any to the victim’s family. The supreme court had directed us to assist the family, but I made it clear that money alone is not the solution.”
The controversy stems from the tragic case of a trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical college and Hospital on august 9. The subsequent vandalism at the hospital on august 15 led to demands from a delegation of junior doctors for Goyal’s resignation, accusing him of failing to prevent the incidents.
Mamata Banerjee also criticized media outlets, alleging that some channels were inciting unrest and spreading false information to boost their TRP ratings. She accused these channels of attempting to create agitation and announced that a committee would be formed to address the issue.
In addition, Banerjee took aim at the bharatiya janata party (BJP), accusing them of organizing protest rallies without police permission and causing injuries to police personnel. She suggested that there was a broader conspiracy involving the central government and Leftist groups aimed at undermining the police force and the state government.
Meanwhile, bjp leader Gaurav Bhatia condemned mamata banerjee for allegedly siding with the rapists rather than supporting the victim’s family. Bhatia criticized the chief minister for her handling of the case and called for her resignation to ensure a fair investigation. He also suggested that if evidence emerged showing her negligence or involvement in evidence tampering, a polygraph test and potential arrest could be necessary to achieve justice.
