Actress Namitha Alleges Discrimination At Meenakshi Temple
Actress Namitha, a well-known figure in the indian film industry, recently recounted an upsetting experience from her visit to meenakshi temple in Madurai. According to media reports, she was questioned about her religion and asked to present a specific certificate to verify it. namitha expressed her frustration to the media and also shared the incident on her social media.
In her media statement, namitha revealed that despite visiting many temples across India, she had never data-faced such humiliation before. She raised concerns about how this experience for her, as a public figure, might reflect on the treatment of other tourists from various states and countries. “Until this morning, I had never heard of a Hindu Certificate. I’ve visited numerous temples and was never asked to provide such a document,” namitha said.
A senior official from the temple authorities refuted Namitha’s claims, explaining that she and her husband were initially stopped because they were wearing masks. They were only asked about their religion as a precaution. Once they clarified their Hindu identity, they were allowed entry, with namitha later receiving kumkum on her forehead and being granted access to the temple.
Namitha also posted a video on instagram discussing her experience, stating, “For the first time, I felt alienated in my own country, needing to prove my Hindu identity. It’s not just about being asked, but the manner in which I was questioned. The officer and his assistant were very rude and arrogant. I urge P. K. Sekar Babu ji to take action against this officer, though I might be mistaken about the name. I’m grateful to the IS police team for assisting us with the darshan and ensuring our safe return.”
Namitha will next appear in the film Fire, directed by Basheed S.K., which also features popular actors Monica, Sandhya, and Rishi.
