Plastic wire in the paratha..!? IRCTC imposed a fine..!?
Millions of people travel by indian Railways every day. rail service is the primary choice for long-distance travel in our country. Some passengers order food on the train during such long-distance journeys. But over the past few days, concerns have been raised about the quality and hygiene of food served to passengers. A person who recently traveled on the dehradun Shatabdi train ordered a paratha. There is a plastic wire in that parotta. Following this, the indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on the catering company.
IRCTC has deputed an officer to conduct a thorough inspection of the kitchen after a wire was found in the passenger's parotta. The kitchen is closed pending the investigation. According to an irctc report, a Shatabdi Express passenger reportedly found a plastic wire in the paratha he had ordered. The catering company's waiter then apologized to the passenger for reporting the issue and offered another food parcel. Due to this, irctc imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on the catering company. Reports suggest that complaints from passengers regarding the cleanliness and quality of food services in indian Railways have increased significantly. The number of complaints increased from 1,192 in march 2022 to 6,948 in the period from april 2023 to february 2024.
This shows almost a 5-fold increase. Interestingly, this increase in complaints has come not just from regular train services but also from premium trains like Vande Bharat, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, and Mail Express. The indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has reported that it has received nearly 11,850 customer complaints regarding its catering services from april 2021 to february 2024. Due to this, irctc has also canceled the contracts of around 3 catering companies from the beginning of 2021 to march 2024. It also said that it had sent 68 warning notices before that.
