Hyderabad - Over 200 caught for drunk driving in a day and 70 sent to Jail

According to a media statement, hyderabad traffic police arrested 298 intoxicated drivers on Saturday, 70 of whom received prison sentences ranging from two to eight days.

Additionally, it said that driving while intoxicated is prohibited by Section 185 of the Motor vehicles Act, which carries a Rs.10,000 fine and/or a six-month jail sentence. In a news statement, the hyderabad traffic police stressed that drinking impairs judgment and eyesight, which raises the possibility of accidents, which are frequently deadly. Repeat offenders also risk having their licenses permanently revoked or suspended for longer periods.

Hyderabad traffic police continued its anti-drunk driving campaign, seizing 2,483 drivers in just 15 days. However, 1,543 charge papers that were submitted to different courts have been dismissed. Fifty-eight drunk drivers have received jail sentences ranging from one to fifteen days in the previous fifteen days.

In addition, the RTO suspended 12 driver's licenses for three to six months on the courts' instructions. All of the offenders were additionally fined Rs. 34,02,300 by the courts.

Out of all the instances, 2,034 (82%) of them were booked against drivers of two-wheelers.

It was noted that 97 drivers were arrested for having a blood alcohol content (BAC) of more than 200 mg/100 ml, which is much higher than the allowed limit of less than 30 mg/100 ml.
