Hathras stampede - Rahul Gandhi meets Victims' Families

Six members of preacher Bhole Baba's organising committee were detained by the UP police on Thursday, only days after a huge stampede at a satsang in Uttar Pradesh's hathras claimed 121 lives. The six individuals who were taken into custody were all "sevadars," or volunteers, during the satsang.
 
Since the rush at the preacher's congregation in Harthras, police officers have been stationed outside the ashram. rahul gandhi met the relatives of the stampede victims during his friday visit to Hathras. To meet some of the impacted families, he also travelled to Aligarh.
 

What Happened So Far

• rahul gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, travelled to hathras on friday in the wake of the stampede that claimed 121 lives. The head of congress had a meeting with the victims' relatives. He also met several impacted families in aligarh earlier today.

• Six members of the committee arranging the satsang of preacher Bhole baba were taken into custody by the Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday. Two women are among those detained. According to a senior official who spoke to PTI, Surajpal, also known as Narayan Sakar hari and Bhole baba, would be questioned if necessary throughout the probe. The only other accused person identified in the FIR is still at large.

• Inspector General of police (Aligarh Range) Shalabh Mathur told reporters that all six persons who were arrested worked as 'sevadars' (volunteers) at the satsang. A reward of Rs 1 lakh will be announced soon and a non-bailable warrant (NBW) will also be issued against key accused Devprakash Madhukar, he said. Those arrested were identified by the police as ram Ladaite (50), upendra Singh Yadav (62), Megh Singh (61), mukesh Kumar (38), and women Manju Yadav (30) and Manju Devi (40).
