Kota Srinivasa Rao was born on July 10, 1947, in Kankipadu village near vijayawada in present-day Andhra Pradesh. His father, Sitarama Anjaneyu, was a doctor. Although Srinivasa initially aspired to follow in his father's footsteps and become a doctor, his love for acting led him down a different path. He began his acting career on stage while studying in college. Before entering the film industry, Kota worked as a State bank employee after completing his B.Sc. He is married to Rukmini, and the couple has two daughters and a son.
Kota Srinivasa Rao's son also acted in a few films but tragically died in an accident on the hyderabad Ring Road in 2010. His son had acted in the movie Jaura 2 alongside JD Chakraborty. Inspired by senior ntr and encouraged by his best friend and fellow actor babumohan, who had already entered politics, Kota decided to follow suit. With the support of chandrababu naidu and his admiration for Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he contested from the Bejwada east Constituency in 1999 as a candidate of the bharatiya janata party (BJP).
In that election, he won against Ailapuram Venkaiah, a prominent leader from the Congress. This victory led him to the assembly. At the same time, his best friend babumohan won as an mla representing tdp from Andol in medak district and became a minister in Chandrababu Naidu's government. It was a notable occasion as both best friends served in the assembly together.
