After a deal was reached on
tuesday between the opposition and the ruling BJP-led
nda,
bjp mp om birla will be re-elected as Speaker of the
lok sabha for a second consecutive term. Since the opposition has chosen not to run a candidate for the
office of
lok sabha Speaker, Birla is predicted to win the
election with no opposition.
Following the opposition
india bloc's announcement that it was weighing its options, the
government sent out Defence
minister rajnath singh and Parliamentary Affairs
minister Kiren Rijiju to foster agreement on the
lok sabha Speaker nominee.
In the general elections,
om birla had won the Kota
lok sabha seat by a margin of more than 41,000 votes.
According to earlier reports, if the NDA's choice for
lok sabha Speaker could be agreed upon, the opposition may take over as the next
leader of the house.
In 2014, M Thambi Durai of the AIADMK was named Deputy Speaker by the BJP. Since 2019, the position has been unfilled.
Rahul Gandhi, a congressman, reported that
rajnath singh had called
mallikarjun Kharge, the
party president, asking him to back the
nda candidate.
According to tradition, the opposition should be appointed to the
office of Deputy Speaker, stated the Raebareli MP.
"Mallikarjun Kharge was summoned by
rajnath singh, who requested that he provide the Speaker his support. The opposition as a whole declared that they would back the speaker, however it is customary to assign the opposition to the position of deputy speaker.
rahul gandhi stated, "Rajnath Singh promised to contact
mallikarjun Kharge back, but he hasn't done so yet.
