Yellampally water for parched Hyderabad areas
The hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS & SB) has started emergency pumping from the Sripada Yellampally project after an eight-year break. The last time this kind of water withdrawal from the Godavari reservoir occurred was in 2016. This is a preventive step to guarantee that Hyderabad's water supply doesn't stop since there was a similar action taken at the nagarjuna sagar reservoir in April.
The city's declining groundwater levels made it difficult for authorities to deliver water over the summer. With more than 2.37 lakh trips in april alone, there has also been an increase in the availability of water tankers.
Just 4.21 TMC of water remains in active storage for the Yellampally project, of which 168 million gallons per day (MGD) will be given to the city. At the Murmur location, a total of twenty pumps have been constructed to handle this emergency pumping. Only seven are in operation at this time; more will be added as needed.
