From 52 seats in 2019, Congress makes a Remarkable Comeback in 2024

The congress has gone a long way from 52 seats in the 2019 lok sabha elections to 98 seats (as of today) in 2024. "Some defeats are more important than victories," a top congress leader stated, even as the party prepares to spend an additional five years in the Opposition benches. The bharatiya janata party (BJP)'s boast of "400 paar" has been thoroughly demolished by the congress and its allies, undermining prime minister narendra Modi's electoral invincibility and making the india coalition a formidable force.

“Trends for all 543 seats are now available. The following has become clear: 1. It will be a staggering political and decisively moral defeat for Mr. narendra Modi. 2. The exit polls that he orchestrated have been completely exposed for what they were--a total sham,” posted congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh.

Undoubtedly, this would mark the second instance in which the congress has lost three consecutive lok sabha elections. Three national polls were lost by the congress in 1996, 1998, and 1999. However, the opposition group's overall performance is outclassed by the Congress-led india group's success in reducing the bjp to fewer than 250 seats and keeping the nda to 297 seats (as of now), despite the Prime Minister's bold boasts of 370 seats for the bjp and 400 for the NDA.

A senior congress politician stated, "This is not the fairy tale of 2004 when the Congress-led UPA came to power defeating mighty bjp, but this outcome is perhaps more valuable." Because of this election, Modi and the BJP's weaknesses have been made clear. Additionally, democratic ideals are somewhat restored by this election.

As a much-needed acknowledgment of the power of the main opposition party, the congress is prepared to take over as leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Additionally, the congress will solidify its position as the india bloc's leader with 98 members. To fight this battle of prestige, the main opposition party had three key strategies at its disposal: the creation of the india bloc, which consisted of over thirty small and large parties; a manifesto that appealed to caste groups and promised numerous benefits; and a persistent campaign to preserve the Constitution to preserve the reservation.
