The desilting process is still ongoing even though it was supposed to be finished by May 31. The recent unseasonal rains inundated several metropolitan regions, much like in previous years when numerous communities remained waterlogged or submerged for days with stormwater drains and nalas full of silt and other waste material impeding the flow of the floodwater. This demonstrates how the city would be impacted even this season if the improvements were left unfinished.
The ghmc suggested that SNDP 58 works with the monsoon response plan, with an estimated cost of Rs 985.45 crore. The biggest number of approved works—29—are in the charminar zone, followed by LB nagar with five, Khairatabad with six, Serilingampally and kukatpally with five, and secunderabad with six. Numerous colonies and low-lying districts in the city's center can be spared floods thanks to large-scale projects like Karwan's Hussainsagar and Balkapur nalas. They are still unfinished and moving slowly.
Over 125 areas were found to be afflicted by waterlogging by the GHMC; in 22 of those locations, permanent solutions have been implemented. Nonetheless, the bulk of the works are unfinished. Moreover, the desilting of nalas is very slow. "Garbage is being cleared out of stormwater drains and culverts as a safety precaution," a ghmc spokesperson stated. Before the first week of June, the remaining drains and culverts must be cleared to allow water to flow freely via stormwater drains and nalas. By doing this, monsoon water stagnation would be prevented," he continued.
Social activist Mohammed ahmed claimed that the civic body is only implementing a few temporary measures and has not taken up any permanent solutions, despite being aware that the city experiences road flooding and waterlogging during the monsoon season due to poorly upgraded storm water drains that impede the rainwater's ability to flow freely. "Several works worth crore were sanctioned, but no work was taken up by officials," ahmed stated. The monsoon is due to come in a week, yet authorities have disregarded the urgency of the waterlogging situation and their work with a casual attitude.
